15 NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES IN HALESWORTH HANDED OVER
Fifteen new affordable homes in Halesworth have been handed over – and are destined to meet the housing needs of local people.
Developed via a partnership between Lowestoft-based developer Wellington and Orwell Housing, the housing provider took possession of the keys today (Tuesday 17th March) - and now the new homes will be allocated to people with housing need who have a strong connection with the town, under a ‘Local Lettings’ policy.
The new homes, off Bramfield Road in the town, represent a £1.7 million investment, which was made following a meeting between Orwell Housing and Halesworth Town Council, who expressed concern about the lack of affordable homes in the town.
Working with Orwell, Wellington identified the site, and the land was purchased from a local family in 2013. Planning permission was granted as an ‘Exceptions Site’, which means that priority can be given to local people when it comes to allocating the homes. Built on land which was formerly a paddock, the new homes have been widely welcomed by the local community.
Stephen Javes, chief executive of Orwell Housing and Cllr Sue Allen, Cabinet member for Housing at Waveney District Council, received the keys from Wellington managing director Paul Pitcher.
Mr Javes said, “We are pleased to have delivered much-needed homes in the Halesworth area, and to have continued our excellent working relationship with Waveney District Council and with Wellington. We continue to look for new opportunities, and would love to hear from anyone who can help us provide more homes.”
Cllr Allen commented, “These homes look amazing – the people moving in here will be enjoying top quality new homes. As always, Orwell and Wellington have done an excellent job.
Mr Pitcher, managing director of Wellington, added, “We are delighted once again to be handing over some much-needed new affordable homes to Orwell Housing, for whom we have delivered several such schemes in Suffolk. It is a strong working partnership, which is ultimately benefitting those in housing need in the county – and we look forward to handing over more affordable homes to Orwell in the future.”
