81 NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES ANNOUNCED FOR NORFOLK
A leading Norfolk housing association has announced that it has signed contracts worth £9.2 million to build a further 81 new affordable homes in the county – bringing to 205 the number of homes it is currently building.
Victory Housing Trust, which is based in North Walsham, has signed contracts with construction companies Kier and Persimmon to build the new homes in Blofield, Sprowston and Framingham Earl.
In March the Trust announced an £80 million commitment to build 900 new homes in the five years leading to 2022, completing a new home on average every 2.14 days during that period. This represents a doubling of the pace at which Victory is building new homes, despite the fact that it was already building at nearly twice the national average rate for social housing providers.
“We recognise that there is a pressing need for more affordable homes for local people in the county, and not only have we made a commitment to accelerate our building programme, but this announcement today shows that we are putting our money where our mouth is,” said Victory Housing Trust chief executive John Archibald.
“Since we came into existence in 2006 we have already completed 792 new homes; for the first time we now have over 200 new homes in our pipeline; and we continue to look for opportunities to create more affordable housing for the people of Norfolk.”
The announcement will see new affordable homes built in three locations:
- 40 new homes at Blofield, to be built by Kier, with a contract value of £4.6 million. 25 of the new homes will be for affordable rent, with the remaining 15 for low cost shared ownership
- 33 new homes at Framingham Earl, to be built by Persimmon, with a contract value of £3.5 million. 28 of the new homes will be for affordable rent, with the remaining five for low cost shared ownership
- Eight new homes at Sprowston, to be built by Persimmon, with a contract value of £1.1 million. All eight homes will be for low cost shared ownership.
Victory is also currently building in Poringland, Bacton, Sprowston, Roughton, Fakenham, Narborough and Sheringham.
