ATMOSPHERIC OIL PAINTING OF FAMILIAR NORTH NORFOLK VIEW CARRIES OFF NORFOLK SHOW ART PRIZE
An atmospheric oil painting of Brancaster Staithe has carried off the prestigious Sponsor’s Choice Award at the Royal Norfolk Show Art Exhibition this year – recognising the work of a north Norfolk artist who has been painting professionally for three decades.
Mo Teeuw won the prize after her picture ‘View over Brancaster Staithe’ was picked out by judges from Art Exhibition sponsor Arnolds Keys, who praised the way a moody sky, shimmering sea and ploughed fields combined to create an atmospheric, impressionistic view of a familiar scene.
A member of the Institute of East Anglian Artists and the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists, Mo Teeuw has been a professional artists for 30 years, preferring to work plein air in oils, capturing the essence of the landscape. ‘View over Brancaster Staithe’ was one of two pictures she exhibited in the Show’s art marquee.
“In an exhibition where the standard was again very high, Mo’s painting stood out as portraying a familiar north Norfolk view in a really haunting and atmospheric way,” said Arnolds Keys managing partner Guy Gowing.
“Once again the range of art in the exhibition was to a very high standard, including many excellent paintings and sculptures.”
More than 350 works by Norfolk artists were on display in the Show’s Art Exhibition, with many being snapped up by show visitors early on the first day.
