An amateur dramatics group in Attleborough is wowing their audiences thanks to a £2000 grant from a regional accountancy firm, which has enabled them to purchase personal microphone packs for performers.

Attleborough Players were able to put the new equipment through its paces during its recent production of Alice Through The Looking Glass at the Town’s Connaught Hall – and now they are planning an ambitious musical show in the autumn to make full use of the new microphones.

The grant came from Lovewell Blake’s Community Fund, which has given over £350,000 to community groups across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire since it was set up in 2008.  The donation to Attleborough Players was one of 16 donations totalling nearly £21,000 in the Fund’s latest grants round.

Attleborough Players is a community-based drama group with members including adults and young people from the town and neighbouring villages.  The group puts on musicals and pantomimes, as well as holding other performing events throughout the year.

The £2,000 grant facilitated the purchase of eight portable microphone packs, which will enable individual cast members to be miked rather than sharing microphones, which is what has happened in the past.

Vicky Aukett, chair of Attleborough Players, said, “We are really grateful to Lovewell Blake for this generous donation which will really enhance our productions, leading to a better experience both for performers and our audiences.

“We believe in building confidence, making friendships and allowing access to theatre for all, and grants like this allow us to give more people opportunities to perform, and more people to enjoy our shows.”

Jamie Norton, partner at Lovewell Blake’s Thetford office, said, “The Lovewell Blake Community Fund is all about supporting the grassroots organisations which are so important in our local communities.

“We are delighted to support Attleborough Players, and I look forward to seeing their next show, with great quality sound!”

Attleborough Players’ next event is an ‘All Singing All Dancing Quiz’ on Saturday 25th May at the town’s Connaught Hall, complete with entertainment and musical rounds.  More details at www.attleboroughplayers.co.uk.

The next grants round of the Lovewell Blake Community Fund will open for applications in the autumn.
