BURY ACCOUNTANT GETS ON HIS BIKE TO TACKLE DUTCH CHALLENGE FOR PROSTATE CANCER CHARITY
A Bury St Edmunds accountant is set to Go Dutch on two wheels as he takes to his bike to ride the 230 miles from Ipswich to Amsterdam and back in one weekend to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Paul Milton, a manager at Lovewell Blake’s Bury St Edmunds office, is part of a group of around 30 Suffolk businessmen and women who will be joining up at Harwich with hundreds of other cyclists from as far afield as London and Yorkshire, before boarding a ferry and riding to the Dutch capital the next day.
This is the fourth time that Mr Milton has taken part in the ride, and he estimates that the Suffolk group have raised around £300,000 for the charity during that time.
“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and has directly affected my family,” said Mr Milton. “It’s a disease which kills one man every 45 minutes – that’s two men during a football match. Prostate Cancer UK’s aim is to make this a disease the next generation need not fear.”
The Suffolk team is also hoping to use the event to raise awareness of another charity, Futurestars, which is an education-through-sports programme that offers weekly sports coaching sessions run by qualified coaches for underprivileged children in West Africa. The team’s cycling shirts will feature the charity’s logo.
