DAREDEVIL NORFOLK CHARITY FUNDRAISERS THROW THEMSELVES OFF A WELSH MOUNTAIN
Twenty daredevil fundraisers from Norfolk have raised over £5,000 for the county’s sight loss charity after throwing themselves off a Welsh mountain and travelling at speeds of up to 100mph along a one mile long zip wire.
The plucky twenty, led by Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) head of fundraising Jeremy Goss, reached speeds of up to 100mph as they tackled Europe’s longest, and the world’s fastest, zip wire at Penrhyn Quarry at Bethesda in north Wales.
The team, a mixture of charity staff, volunteers and supporters, launched themselves from a 500ft high platform, travelling for more than a mile into the valley floor below.
“We try to come up with fundraising ideas which catch the imagination and challenge those taking part,” said Jeremy Goss. “Letting go at the top of a mountain and allowing gravity to do its thing requires considerable nerve – it’s the closest thing you can get to actual flying.
“We are delighted that so many stepped forward to take up the challenge, and despite a few nerves, everyone was exhilarated by the experience.
“We are incredibly grateful to all those who took part, as well as the individuals and business who sponsored the participants. We are delighted to have raised so much for the NNAB.”
