Drink different - an english bacchus

1st Oct 2014
English Bacchus

For many years, the Loire Valley in north-west France was about the France northern-most wine producing region in Europe.  If it was fresh, minerally wines with good acidity you were after, a Sauvignon from Touraine was a good bet.

However, a combination of climate change and a real push from our own winemakers has led to a credible competitor even further north – here in England.  English wines are no longer a joke; they are winning over connoisseurs all over the world.

Here in Norfolk, several vineyards are part of this revolution.  If you are looking for an alternative to the Loire Sauvignon, try this wonderful Bacchus from Winbirri vineyard in Surlingham.  Bacchus is sometimes known as the Sauvignon Blanc of England; this wine has grapefruit, passion fruit and floral notes on the nose – and you will be supporting a local producer with every delicious mouthful.
