FIRST EDITION ‘A CLOCKWORK ORANGE’ TO FEATURE IN KEYS TWO DAY BOOK SALE
A first edition of Anthony Burgess’s acclaimed dystopian black comedy ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is to go under the hammer in Keys Fine Art Auctioneers’ two day Books, Maps, Ephemera & Postal History Sale in October.
Published by Heinemann in 1962, the novella is set in a near-future society which has am extremely violent youth subculture. The author claimed to have written it in just three weeks. In 1971 the book was adapted into a controversial film by Stanley Kubrick.
The first edition which goes under the hammer at Keys is in good condition and has its dust jacket designed by Barry Trengrove and original black boards with the title in gilt lettering to the spine. It has a pre-sale estimate of £1,500-£2,000.
