FIVE HOUSING PROFESSIONALS GET ON THEIR BIKES TO CAMPAIGN TO END HOUSING CRISIS
Five housing professionals from north Norfolk are getting on their bikes later this week to highlight the nationwide housing crisis.
The five, from Victory Housing Trust, will be cycling from the Trust’s headquarters in North Walsham to the Homes for Britain rally in Westminster on 17th March – part of a UK-wide relay which will see staff and supporters of hundreds of housing organisations converge on the capital to call for the next government – of whatever political colour – to tackle the housing crisis.
Victory deputy chief executive Darryl Cox will be departing from North Walsham with four colleagues on Friday 13th March at 1pm to ride to Westminster, where they will be joined by ten other Victory staff and residents at the rally.
Taking place in the heart of Westminster, thousands of people, from social housing providers, house builders and homeless charities, will come together on Tuesday 17th March for the biggest housing rally in a generation.
Mr Cox said, “This is an opportunity to highlight the fact that Britain has a huge housing crisis, with people right across the UK struggling to find the homes they need at a price they can afford – and that includes people in Norfolk.
“Despite the best efforts of organisations like Victory, which has built one new home every six days since it came into existence, there is still a huge shortfall in the number of new homes being built. This is pushing up the price of existing homes, whether to buy or rent.
“The Homes For Britain Rally is designed to raise awareness of this problem amongst politicians of all political persuasions, as we enter the pre-Election run-up. It aims to put housing firmly at the top of the political agenda, and as a key issue on the doorstep.”
The Homes For Britain rally is being organised by the National Housing Federation, with the aim of persuading the next government to put in place a long-term plan to end the housing crisis within a generation.
The five Victory staff who will be cycling to the rally in London are Warren Brooks, Darryl Cox, David Lubbock, Nathan Thompson and Mark Turner.
