INTREPID HALF DOZEN TO TACKLE BRITAIN’S THIRD HIGHEST MOUNTAIN TO SUPPORT VISUALLY-IMPAIRED YOUNGSTERS
Six Norfolk people are set to tackle the UK’s third highest mountain in a bid to raise money to support visually-impaired youngsters in the county.
The intrepid half-dozen, a mixture of service users and staff from Vision Norfolk, will be climbing the 3,500 ft Mount Snowdon in May, to raise funds for the charity’s Children, Young People and Families service, which arranges events and activities for visually-impaired children and provides practical and emotional support and guidance for their families.
Three mums and one grandad of children living with sight loss will be tackling the six hour trek along with two Vision Norfolk staff – with the aim of raising £5,000 to support the work the charity does with young people and their families.
The charity’s children, young people and families co-ordinator Barbara Dunn, who is one of those taking part in the challenge, said, “Our children, young people and families service is a vital part of the work that Vision Norfolk does to support people living with sight loss in the county.
“Sight loss doesn’t just affect the child, it has a profound effect on those around them. When a child is registered with sight loss or visual impairment, it can be a worrying and confusing time, and can feel lonely and isolating. We offer emotional and practical support to both the young person and their family.
“We help to bring families together, creating a valuable support network for one another. We encourage families to get involved in the activities, whether this be siblings, parents, carers or any other family members.
“Our programme of activities is a lifeline for many visually-impaired young people and their families, and it’s great to see some of those families stepping out help raise funds to support the work we do.”
