A local house builder has promised to start work within the month on building 40 new family homes, after it received a detailed planning consent at a meeting of Breckland Council’s planning committee today (Monday 11th February).

Abel Homes is to build 40 new homes on land south of Two Fields Way in Bawdeswell.  Outline and detailed planning consent had previously been granted on the land before Abel Homes acquired it, but the Watton-based firm was seeking some detail changes, including creating a safer road access and incorporating new house type designs.

Now the local firm is planning to start work on the site within the month, with the first homes going on sale in late summer.

“Some developers stand accused of ‘landbanking’, but when we apply for planning consent, it is always with the intention of getting on with building much-needed new homes for Norfolk’s local communities,” said Paul LeGrice, managing director of Abel Homes.

“This site was part of the local development framework within Breckland, and our scheme now looks to bring forward these 40 new family homes.

“As with all our sites, we will be building under the terms of our own ‘Good Neighbour Charter’, which sets out how we and our contractors will operate with consideration for local residents.  In due course we will also be commissioning a piece of public artwork from a Norfolk artist to be located on the site, to act as a focal point for the new community.”
