LOWESTOFT FIRM ANNOUNCES £2.2 MILLION PROJECT TO BUILD NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES IN KESSINGLAND
Lowestoft-based developer Wellington has announced a £2.2 million project to build 23 affordable homes in Kessingland. The development, for Orbit East, will see a mix of houses and bungalows built on a derelict piece of land off The Nordalls in the town.
Work will start on the new homes early in 2016, with completion scheduled for spring 2017. The homes will be made available for affordable rental. The development will also include a public open space at the point where it adjoins existing homes on The Nordalls.
This latest announcement confirms Wellington’s position as a major player in the affordable homes market. The firm is already building on sites in Norwich, Lowestoft, and north Norfolk for a number of Registered Social Landlords.
“We are delighted to have brought forward this interesting project, which will provide 23 much-needed affordable homes for rent in Kessingland,” said Paul Pitcher, managing director of Wellington.
“The recent Budget announcement has put a significant squeeze on housing associations’ ability to bring forward new developments, so it is pleasing to have been able to create this one for Orbit East.
“This is a developer-led project, which means that Wellington has secured the land, obtained planning consent, and brought the development to Orbit East. Our ability to develop affordable homes in this way demonstrates our position as the leading locally-based developer of affordable homes in Norfolk and Suffolk.”
As part of the development, Wellington will plant 12 new trees, as well as preserving two of the existing trees on the site.
