MEISSEN ‘CHRISTIE-MILLER SERVICE’ PLATE TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT KEYS
A rare Meissen octagonal plate from the ‘Christie-Miller Service’ is one of the star lots in Keys Fine Art Auctioneers three day spring Fine Sale, which takes place on Tuesday 26th, Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March.
Manufactured around 1740, 61 pieces of the service were said to have been purchased by Samuel Christie-Miller in 1840 from a member of the Orléans family, and these were sold by his descendants in 1970.
The plate has a pre-sale estimate of £12,000-£14,000.
The scenes depicted in the centre are closely related to engravings by Melchior Küsel after Johann Wilhelm Baur published in Augsburg in 1681.
In the same sale, Keys is offering a Meissen coffee pot, also dating from circa 1740, finely painted with harbour scenes, with a matching cover painted with similar scenes, gilt spout and tau style handle. It has a blue crossed swords mark to the base. The pre-sale estimate is £1,400-£1,600.
