The keys have been handed over to eight brand new affordable homes in Narborough – the first phase of a development which will see a total of 21 new affordable homes made available for affordable rent and low-cost shared ownership.

The new development represents a £2 million by North Walsham social landlord Victory Housing Trust, and it is the first time they have built new affordable homes in Breckland.

First to receive their keys was Erika Krauzaite, who along with her father Juozas Krauza, her son Mata and her daughter Meta, has moved into a three bedroom house.

The family saw their previous home, a private rented property in Swaffham, sold from underneath them by their landlord.  Miss Krauzaite is a full-time carer for her severely disabled two-year-old daughter, whilst her father, who works at the Linda McCartney Foods factory in Fakenham, has lived with the family since the death of Miss Krauzaite’s mother.

“When I heard I had got this house, I cried with joy,” said Miss Krauzaite.  “It is so nice to have a settled home for my family, where I can care for my daughter.  It is a very nice place, much quieter and safer for the children than where we were before.  But the main thing is that I know I have security and a place to raise the family.  I am so happy.”

Handing over the leys to Miss Krauzaite’s new home, Victory Housing Trust’s housing director Christine Candlish said, “I am delighted that we have been able to provide a secure and settled home for Erika to bring up her family.

“Her story of a private landlord selling her home from underneath her is sadly all too common, which is why there is such a desperate need for new affordable homes which can give families like hers a long-term future.

“The 21 new affordable homes that we are building in Narborough are part of a wider drive to provide many more new affordable homes for those in housing need in Norfolk.”

Victory has built a total of 948 new homes since its inception  in 2006.  It currently has a further 95 new homes currently on site, with 120 more in the pipeline.
