New staff, new leadership team, and new apprentice at nwhs
North Walsham High School has welcomed eight new teachers to its staff – and has also taken on an apprentice IT technician who until June was a student at the school.
Head teacher Caroline Brooker officially greeted the new members of staff at the beginning of term, at the same time announcing restructuring of the leadership team following the retirement in the summer of deputy head Chris Tooth.
Ian Winter, who was joint deputy head with Mr Tooth, remains the sole deputy head, and five assistant heads will take responsibility for specific areas of school life. Business manager Nicki Everitt completes the senior leadership team line-up.
The five assistant heads are:
- Paul Clark, responsible for attendance, careers and mentoring
- Dominic James, responsible for staff training and learning
- Karen King, responsible for safeguarding
- Pete Lambert, responsible for curriculum
- Paul Leaver, responsible for data
The eight new teachers joining the school for the new term are:
- Kirsten Abel (PE)
- Monica Agache (English)
- Katy Cooper (English)
- Lara Gardner (Music)
- Amanda Parker (Design & Technology)
- Maggie Philipps (Maths)
- Jessica Rayfield (Computer Science)
- Lucy Smith (Geography)
The school has also welcomed Cameron Pitts as apprentice IT technician. Cameron was a student at the school until earlier this year, and is the first apprentice to join the school’s staff.
Head teacher Caroline Brooker said, “We are delighted to welcome our new colleagues who join the school as we continue to achieve improved results and focus on the quality of our teaching.
“Our new-look, expanded leadership team has enabled us to name individuals who will take responsibility for leading in defined areas and monitoring specific groups of students, which is an important part of fulfilling our improvement plan.
“It is a particular pleasure to welcome our first apprentice to the school’s staff. Cameron was a student here until July of this year, and we are delighted to be able to offer this great opportunity to him.
“Not only will it provide him with a firm foundation for his future career, but it also sends a very positive message to current students that apprenticeships can be an excellent option to pursue after GCSEs.”
