NORWICH INSURANCE BROKERS TACKLE TOUGH STEEPLECHASE TO RAISE OVER £3,000 FOR SIGHT LOSS CHARITY
A team from a Norwich insurance brokers have raised over £3,000 for Norfolk’s sight loss charity by enduring ‘Blood and Mud’ in a tough steeplechase.
Colleagues, friends and family joined Kelvin Colbourn, an account handler at Surrey Street-based Towergate Insurance, to take part in a 10km steeplechase at Blackwater Farm in Great Witchingham, tackling over 50 horse-jump style obstacles over undulating fields, woods and through chilly streams.
The intrepid nine – who dubbed themselves ‘Gossy’s Giants’ in honour of Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind head of fundraising and former Norwich City star Jeremy Goss - took on the challenge to say thank you to the NNAB, who looked after Kelvin’s grandmother in the Association’s Thomas Tawell House care home in the final months of her life.
“The NNAB does an amazing job, so we wanted to put ourselves through some pain to raise some money for them,” said Mr Colbourn.
A total of £3119.55 was raised through a combination of sponsorship, a fundraising day at Towergate’s Norwich offices, and a £1,000 donation from The Ardonagh Trust, the charity set up by Towergate owner The Ardonagh Group.
NNAB head of fundraising Jeremy Goss commented, “Congratulations to everyone who took part in this tough challenge, and who raised such an amazing amount of money for Norfolk’s sight loss charity. As requested by Kelvin, the cash raised will be spent on supporting the work done at Thomas Tawell House, where the NNAB provides residential care for people with poor sight.”
