NORWICH RESTAURANT MARKS 25TH BIRTHDAY WITH SPECIAL MENU
A Norwich restaurant which has become a city institution is to mark its 25th birthday with a special menu featuring three classic dishes from its illustrious history.
The Last Wine Bar and Restaurant, in St George’s Street, opened its doors in 1990, and to celebrate a remarkable quarter of a century in business, the special three course 25th anniversary menu will be available for lunch and dinner throughout September – at a special price of £25 (including coffee).
Opened in 1990 in a former Victorian shoe factory (hence the name – it refers to shoe ‘lasts’, used in the manufacturing process), the Last is still owned and run by founder James Sawrey-Cookson, along with his stepson Ecky Limon.
“In the fickle world of restaurants, we are proud of the achievement of reaching our 25th birthday,” said Mr Sawrey-Cookson. “Over that period The Last has become an irreplaceable part of the city’s food and drink scene – it’s fair to say it is now a Norwich institution.
“Over those 25 years, we have tried to keep the same ethos: great food, an eclectic and interesting wine list, and above all a warm personal welcome and a distinctive atmosphere. We are extremely fortunate to have won a large army of very loyal customers, many of whom have been coming here since we first opened our doors.”
The special 25th anniversary menu includes three classic dishes which have long been favourites among Last regulars:
- Mojito battered prawns, fennel slaw, tandorii masala, coconut sauce
- Braised lamb shank with English mustard mash, roasted root vegetables, rosemary & red wine jus
- Classic Last Wine Bar Vanilla Cheesecake with caramel sauce
The special menu will be available throughout the month of September, lunch and dinner, in addition to the normal menus on offer.
