NORWICH’S ‘SECRET GARDEN’ OPENS TO SUPPORT THE NNAB
Garden lovers will have a rare chance to explore Norwich’s ‘Secret Garden’ next month, when the stunning four acre garden at The Bishop of Norwich’s house opens for the day in aid of the Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind.
Visitors will be able to explore the extensive gardens – which only open a few days every year – on the afternoon of Sunday 10th June from 1pm-5pm. As well as exploring the grounds, first set out by Bishop de Losinga around 1100AD, there will be giant games to play on the lawn, craft and basket demonstrations, and music from the Norwich Community Choir.
There will also be delicious home-made cakes for sale alongside teas and coffees in the adjacent Granary.
“We are extremely grateful to Bishop Graham for allowing us to benefit from one of the popular open days at the Bishop’s Garden this year,” said Donna Minto, fundraiser at the NNAB. “The garden is one of Norwich’s hidden secrets, and is a lovely place to spend a summer’s afternoon.
“The garden has many hidden delights for visitors including large traditional herbaceous borders, a small woodland walk, boxed rose beds, a long shade border with hostas, meconopsis and tree ferns. Visitors will also find a large wild grass labyrinth, an organic kitchen garden, bamboo walk, and a popular plant sales area.”
The Bishop’s Garden Open Day in support of the Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind takes place on Sunday 10th June from 1pm-5pm. Entry costs £4, with children and wheelchair users free. Guide dogs are welcome. The entrance to the garden can be found off St-Martin-At Palace Plain.
