ROLLING STONE’S ART TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER IN NORFOLK IN AID OF NOOK APPEAL

4th Jun 2018
Lot 273 signed print Self Portrait II estimate 400 500

The Norfolk Nook children’s hospice appeal is set for a fundraising boost after Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood donated three signed lots to a 20th Century Design and Modern Art auction to be held in Norfolk next week.

The two signed pictures and an autographed book of the musician’s art are to be auctioned as part of the Keys Fine Art Auctioneers sale on Saturday 9th June at the firm’s Aylsham salerooms.

The veteran Rolling Stone is a renowned artist, having attended Ealing Art College before embarking on his musical career.

The donation came via Jane Walker, a Poringland resident and member of the Nook Appeal fundraising committee, who is also the aunt of Ronnie Wood’s wife, Sally.

“With six children and numerous grandchildren, Ronnie is a long-time supporter of children’s charities,” said Mrs Walker.  “We asked if he would consider donating something to help with the hospice appeal, and he responded in a typically generous way.”

The three lots to go under the hammer at the Keys sale are:

  • ‘Self Portrait II’, a signed print which formed part of the publicity artwork for the band’s tour of Japan, which has a pre-sale estimate of £400-£500
  • ‘Keith and Chanel’, a picture of Keith Richards and his dog.  The work is a numbered print, also signed by the artist, and has a pre-sale estimate of £200-£300
  • A copy of the musician’s autobiography, ‘Ronnie Wood: Artist’, featuring his art and signed by him, which has a pre-sale estimate of £100-£150

“We are delighted to include these celebrity lots in our first ever 20th Century Design and Modern Art Sale,” said Keys’ general manager and head of fine art Kevin Lines.

“The Rolling Stones have been a big part of contemporary culture for much of the post-war period, so these items fit right in with a sale which features a whole range of iconic art, furniture, ceramics and design from this period.

“We are honoured to be chosen to sell these Ronnie Wood items, and we hope that bidders will get behind the auction and help raise a good sum for the Nook Appeal.”

The Keys 20th Century Design and Modern Art Sale takes place on Saturday 9th June at 11am, at Keys’ Aylsham salerooms.  More details can be found at www.keysauctions.co.uk.
