SEAGO LONDON WATERCOLOUR STAR LOT IN KEYS’ FIRST EAST ANGLIAN ART SALE OF 2022
A small-scale watercolour by Edward Seago is due to go under the hammer as part of Keys Auctioneers and Valuers’ first East Anglian Art Sale on 2022 on Friday 25th March.
The work, ‘Riverside London’, measures just 18.5cm x 26.5 cm (7.2in x 10.4in), and depicts a view from the banks of the Thames with docked barges in the foreground and Battersea Power Station in the distance. The signed painting has a pre-sale estimate of £4,000-£6,000.
Seago was born in Norwich in 1910, was mentored by Sir Alfred Munnings, and enjoyed the patronage of several royals, including the Queen Mother and Prince Philip. When he died in 1974 his will stipulated that a third of the paintings in his Norwich studio should be destroyed, but his prolific output during his life means that he remains a popular artist in the saleroom.
Also in Keys’ East Anglian sale are nine oil paintings and watercolours by Colin Burns, as well as works by Norwich school artists John Crome, Alfred Stannard and John Joseph Cotman.
Keys’ East Anglian Art Sale takes place on Friday 25th March from 2pm at their Aylsham, Norfolk salerooms, and online. Full details at www.keysauctions.co.uk.
