‘STARTLING’ PENCIL DRAWING OF HARE CARRIES OFF PRESTIGIOUS SPONSOR’S CHOICE AWARD AT ROYAL NORFOLK SHOW ART EXHIBITION
A startling pencil drawing of a hare has carried off the prestigious Sponsor’s Choice Award at the Royal Norfolk Show Art Exhibition this year – recognising the work of a young Suffolk wildlife artist.
Frances Vincent won the prize after her picture ‘Snack Time’ was picked out by judges from Art Exhibition sponsor Arnolds Keys, who praised the picture’s almost photo-like realism and the way the artist had portrayed the natural energy of the hare.
A self-taught artist, Frances, now 32, has been exhibiting her work in shows around east Anglia since she was 12. She works in a the ‘photorealism’ style, a time-consuming process which enables her to ‘capture the energy of the subject’ – saying that for her, the drawing process is just as important as the finished piece.
“In an exhibition where the standard was again very high, Frances’ drawing stood out as a really energetic and startling portrait of an example of classic Norfolk wildlife,” said Arnolds Keys managing partner Guy Gowing.
“Once again the range of art in the exhibition was to a very high standard, including many excellent paintings and sculptures.”
More than 350 works by Norfolk artists were on display in the Show’s Art Exhibition, with many being snapped up by show visitors early on the first day.
