TEAM FROM LOCAL FIRM RAISES £9,000 AT GUNG-HO! EVENT AND HELPS HIT £25,000 NOOK APPEAL FUNDRAISING TARGET
An intrepid team of seven staff from Norfolk-based house builder Abel Homes, along with sister firm Abel Energy, raised £9,000 for The Nook Appeal by taking part in this weekend’s Gung-Ho! Event in Norwich – bringing to £28,000 the sum that the company has raised for the Appeal.
The team tackled the 5km inflatable obstacle course in Earlham Park on Saturday morning, cheered on by colleagues and supporters. The £9,000 raised consisted of £4,500 in sponsorship and a £4,500 match-funded donation from The Abel Group.
In February 2015 the family-owned firm pledged to raise £25,000 for the East Anglian Children’s Hospices-run appeal within three years – and this weekend’s event means that it has achieved its target early, through a combination of staff fundraising and company donations.
The Nook Appeal is aiming to raise £10 million to transform children’s palliative care across Norfolk, including a purpose-built hospice at Framingham Earl, just south of Norwich.
Abel Group chairman Tony Abel, who made the fundraising pledge when the Appeal was launched, said, “I am so proud of our team who have worked hard to raise this amazing amount of money for such a worthy cause.
“I would also like to thank all our clients, suppliers, partners and supporters who have helped us reach this milestone.
“The new hospice will enable EACH to do so much more for local young people with life-threatening illnesses – and support for their families.”
