TOUGH TRAINING FOR NWHS STUDENTS

15th Oct 2015
NWHS students are put through their paces by the Royal Marines Commandos

Around 50 students at North Walsham High School joined the Marines for a gruelling session of physical activity – and emerged muddy, exhausted and inspired.

The Year 9 and 10 students were taking part in a careers day organised by the Royal Marines, and after a presentation on the careers available in the forces, they were put through their paces during a 45 minute workout by two hard-talking Royal Marine Commando instructors on the school’s playing field.

“The idea was to give the students a taste of life in the Marines, and the instructors certainly took no prisoners,” said NWHS assistant head Paul Clark.  “There was a lot of shouting, and the students ended the session wet, muddy and exhausted.

“Despite all that, the exercise was very inspiring, and the students all agreed it had been a brilliant experience.  I think it will have encouraged some of those who took part to consider a career in the forces.

“We try hard to give our students a real taste of as many different careers as possible, both to help them focus their ambitions, and to motivate them to work hard while still at school to achieve them.”

The Royal Marines are the amphibious troops of the Royal Navy, and are acknowledged as one of the world’s elite commando forces.  The service was established in 1664.
