TRADITIONAL TOPPING OUT CEREMONY MARKS 40 NEW HOMES FOR BAWDESWELL
The construction of 40 new energy-efficient family homes in Bawdeswell has been marked by a traditional topping-out ceremony – with locally-brewed beer poured over the roof tiles.
Paul LeGrice, managing director of Watton-based Abel Homes, joined site manager Danny Pinner on the roof of the first of the new homes to be made watertight to perform the ceremony, just eight weeks before the first tranche of new homes goes on sale.
Situated in the heart of the village, just behind the popular garden centre, the 40 new two-, three and four-bedroom homes will have the top ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency and include features such as photo-voltaic solar panels, underfloor heating, triple glazing and high levels of insulation, as well as fibre broadband direct to each home.
The first homes will go on sale early in November, just seven months after the first sod was cut at the site. The development will be called ‘Bluebell Rise’, and as part of the project, Abel Homes will create a public open space on the site, as well as commissioning a piece of public artwork, as it does at every site where it builds new homes.
Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice said, “I am delighted to be topping out the first new home on this fantastic site just five months after we started work here.
“Bawdeswell is a lovely village which can trace its history back to the Domesday Book and beyond, and we are pleased to be building new family homes to enable the village to remain vibrant into the future.”
