‘TURKEY BALL’ PROVIDES £13,000 BOOST TO NORFOLK BEREAVEMENT CHARITY
Norfolk’s children’s and young people’s bereavement support charity Nelson’s Journey has received a £13,000 boost following a hugely successful ‘Turkey Ball’ organised by Great Yarmouth Round Table earlier in the year.
Held at the Ocean Rooms, Gorleston, the event was attended by 420 people, and with the help of sponsorship from Lovewell Blake and Bateman Groundworks, raised the sum through ticket sales and an auction and raffle on the night.
The cash is in addition to £5,500 raised for the charity by the town’s Round Tablers last autumn through a sponsored skydive.
Presenting the cheque, Lovewell Blake partner James Shipp, who was chairman of GY Round Table at the time of the ball, said, “Nelsons Journey is an amazing charity which supports young people who have lost a close family member.
“Through the fantastic generosity of members and their guests who attended our Turkey Ball, and through other fundraising events throughout the year – as well as the support of our local community, we have been able to raise a considerable sum to support the great work that his Norfolk charity does.”
Receiving the cheque, Simon Wright, chief executive of Nelson’s Journey, said, ““The support from Great Yarmouth Round Table has been exceptional. We are so grateful for their tremendous fundraising effort. We’re delivering services to an ever growing number of bereaved children and young people in Norfolk.
“The funds raised by the Turkey Ball are sufficient for us to pay for one of our professional support workers, and the resources that they will use with bereaved children, for more than 6 months. That will make such a positive difference to the lives of many children at a difficult time.”
