WINE LOVERS INVITED TO GET HANDS-ON AT NORFOLK VINEYARD AS PART OF COMMUNITY HARVEST DAYS
Wine lovers have the opportunity to play a part in making some of Norfolk’s most renowned wines when Chet Valley Vineyard’s community harvest starts on Saturday 12th October.
Taking place over two weekends at the vineyard in Bergh Apton just south of Norwich (weather permitting), the community harvest sees volunteers descend on the vineyard to help with gathering the grapes.
Those taking part receive refreshments throughout the day, which culminates with a free harvest supper in the winery in the evening, complete with (of course) wine.
“People love getting involved in the vineyard and being part of the process which results in the end product,” said John Hemmant, owner and winemaker at Chet Valley. “Our community harvest days are great fun, with a wonderful sense of camaraderie, and an enjoyable supper provided at the end of the day.
“This year’s weather has been challenging and it looks like we won’t see a repeat of last year’s record-breaking harvest, but the quality of the grapes is looking very good. Our priority now is to get them harvested when they are peak ripeness, but before the weather turns.”
Those taking part are advised to bring suitable footwear and a pair of secateurs. Full instruction is given.
The community harvest days at Chet Valley Vineyard start (depending on the weather) on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October, and will also take place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October. More dates may be available depending on the weather and the progress of the harvest.
Anyone wanting to take part should contact John Hemmant at info@chetvineyard.co.uk or on 01508 333002 to register their interest and receive further information.
