WORK STARTS ON 13 NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES FOR FAKENHAM

Work has started on a £1.5 million project to build 13 new affordable homes in Fakenham.

Victory Housing Trust chief executive John Archibald joined Gary Waterton from building contractors Draper & Nichols to cut the first sod at the site, in Barons Close near the town centre.

Ten homes for affordable rental and three homes for low-cost home ownership are to be built on the brownfield site, which was formerly occupied by an NHS office, but which has been empty and derelict for some years.

The former health service office has now been demolished, and work has begun on building the new homes, which will be handed over in late autumn.

Mr Archibald commented, “We are delighted to be bringing this site forward, turning what was an unsightly and derelict piece of land into much-needed new affordable homes for Fakenham.

“We are investing a substantial sum - £1.5 million – in this project, as part of our continued drive to build as many new affordable homes as we can to meet the pressing housing need.”

The new development will consist of six one-bedroom and four two-bedroom flats for rent, and two two-bedroom and one three-bedroom houses for low-cost home ownership.

Since coming into existence in 2006, Victory has completed 736 new affordable homes, with a further 135 currently being constructed.
