WORK STARTS ON 26 NEW HOMES IN HAVERHILL

A ceremony has been held in Haverhill to mark progress on a £4.5 million project to build 26 new homes for the town, including six homes for affordable rent and two for shared ownership.

The new homes at the Stonemill site are being developed by Barley Homes, the local house builder owned by West Suffolk Council, and built by Suffolk-based contractor Wellington.

Leader of West Suffolk Council, Cllr John Griffiths, joined Paul Pitcher, managing director of Wellington, to mark the progress on the site, off Chivers Road.  They were joined by Cllr Sarah Mildmay-White, Deputy Leader of the Council, Davina Howes, Director at Barley Homes, Cllr David Roach, councillor for the Haverhill West ward, and Hannah Beckwith, new homes advisor at William H Brown.

Eleven two-bedroom houses, 14 three-bedroom houses and a four-bedroom house are to be built on the site, with the homes due to be available for sale in early 2022.

Cllr Griffiths said, “It was great to see that work has started and progressing well on the site.  This development will not only provide much needed high-quality homes, including affordable ones, but also a return on the investment for taxpayers that will help support Council services.

“This is the second site in Haverhill that Barley Homes is currently building on and I look forward to welcoming our new homeowners.”

Mr Pitcher said, “We are very delighted to be working with Barley Homes and West Suffolk Council to build 26 much-needed family homes in Haverhill.

“As a Suffolk-based firm, we take great pride in building top quality homes for people in the county and throughout East Anglia.  Not only is this providing homes for local people, but it is also creating employment for local people as well.”
